  1. Our Curriculum
  2. Remote Learning

Remote Learning

All pupils should attend school. Schools should only consider providing remote education to pupils in circumstances when in-person attendance is either not possible or contrary to government guidance.

This might include:

  • Occasions when you decide that opening your school is either:
    • Not possible to do safely
    • Contradictory to guidance from local or central government
  • Occasions when individual pupils, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend school but are able to continue learning, for example because they have an infectious illness

This is set out in the DfE's guidance on providing remote education

In the event that pupils are unable to attend school because they are self-isolating, our teachers will provide relevant learning if parents feel that their child is well enough to complete this at home. We will not provide remote education for unathorised absence.

In the first instance (note for Govs - this is because we won’t be able to set up Google Classroom etc. straight away), pupils will have ongoing access to online learning programmes such as Spelling Shed, Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots and SORA (reading of ebooks and audiobooks), and short learning tasks emailed from the school office.

If self-isolation becomes extended (note for Govs – no timeframe as we don’t want to be too prescriptive), pupils will be signposted to a personal folder on Google Classroom which will provide timely and relevant learning tasks and opportunities. These will broadly follow the learning planned for the whole class and provide some filmed teaching (e.g. Oak Academy and White Rose Maths) with relevant worksheets/activities and tasks to support the learning. As far as is practicable, children will also be set learning tasks from the same curriculum subjects being taught that day in class. Teachers will offer regular remote contact to provide an opportunity for face-to-face discussion and support about the work set and completed.

Times Tables Rockstars (Year 2 – Year 6)

Times Tables Rockstars is a fun and interactive way for children to practise and improve their multiplication and division skills. Through games and challenges, children can build confidence and speed with their times tables - essential foundations for success in maths.

Numbots (EYFS – Year 1)

Numbots is designed to help younger learners develop their understanding of number, addition, and subtraction. It supports children in building fluency with basic number facts, helping them move from counting to calculating. Like Times Tables Rockstars, it uses engaging games and rewards to motivate pupils to practise regularly.

Spelling Shed

Spelling Shed helps children learn and retain spelling patterns and rules in an enjoyable way. Each week, your child’s teacher will assign spelling lists linked to the curriculum. The platform includes games, quizzes, and activities that make spelling practice exciting and effective.

Sora

Sora is our digital reading platform, giving children access to a wide range of eBooks and audiobooks. It encourages a love of reading by allowing pupils to explore books that interest them, wherever they are. Children can borrow books instantly using their school login details and read on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
